The faculty and staff of Howard Middle School are committed to providing our students with quality educational experiences, integrating curriculum content with real world experiences. All students are provided opportunities to achieve and reach their full potential through rigorous instruction, relevant curriculum, and relationships with staff.
SCHOOL PROFILE
DESCRIPTION:
Howard Middle School is located on 34 acres in west Ocala. First opened in 1955 as Howard High School, it later became Hampton Community College and, in the 1969-1970 school year, was designated Howard Middle School. A 1991 building renovation and expansion included the addition of three classroom wings. The newest expansion and renovation project was completed in 2011 that included new buildings to handle the increased population of HMS as well as updates to the original portions of our expansive campus. The school has a history of rich academic excellence. Dedicated teachers work with students to achieve educational goals that support their futures. Innovative teaching and learning are encouraged, and students are served in a safe, well-disciplined environment.
SPECIAL PROGRAMS INCLUDE
STEAM Magnet Program, International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme, (IB MYP), Gifted Education, ESOL Education, Art, Band, Spanish, Video Production, Robotics, Health Occupations, Career Technology, and Journalism Yearbook.
EXTRACURRICULAR:
Before and after school enrichment includes activities such as Academic Team, Art Club, Athletics (Cross Country, Volleyball, Track, Basketball), Homework Help and Tutoring, Jazz and Ensemble Band, National Junior Honor Society, Math Counts, Student Council, and many more!
