CHOOSING PROGRAMS AND FUTURE SCHEDULING

Whether you are a current 5th grade student coming to Howard Middle School for the first time OR you are a current 6th or 7th grade student returning to us here at HMS...WELCOME!!! We are so glad to have you attending with us here at Howard Middle School! This is an exciting time in the school year when students beging to choose courses for their upcoming 6th, 7th or 8th grade year...Time sure does fly!

In these three sections, you will find information on our scheduling process for those new to HMS and for those who are currently with us, a video presentation link, that will provide you with a glimpse into our academics and electives here at HMS, as well as links to the specific grade level scheduling sheets.

*If you are already a student here at HMS, please go the section labeled "Returning to Howard Middle School", to view the process for scheduling our current 6th and 7th grade students. There you will find links to the 7th and 8th grade scheduling sheets and course descriptions so that you and your parents may review these before they are filled out on Friday, February 21st*

*If you are currently in 5th grade, please go to the section labled "Incoming 5th Grade and School Choice Magnet". You will also find a link to the video, a link to the 6th grade scheduling options sheet and information for those joining our magnet program on "School Choice" for the 25-26 school year.

*For our current 8th grade students, please go the section labled "Going to High School" for information on each High School, along with a link to their particular scheduling options sheet. Our current 8th grade students will be scheduling Friday, February 8th with a representative of their "zoned" high school*

RETURNING TO HOWARD

WELCOME BACK BULLS!

You are about to move up to 7th or 8th grade and will need to choose your classes and electives for the 25-26 school year...This is how you will complete the scheduling process:

On FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 21ST DURING ALL 6TH GRADE WORLD HISTORY CLASSES AND ALL 7TH GRADE CIVICS CLASSES- YOU WILL COMPLETE THE SCHEDULING "CHOICE" FORM THAT YOU SEE THE LINK FOR, FOR NEXT SCHOOL YEAR! *THIS SHOULD ONLY TAKE @15 MIN. OF THE BEGINNING OF EACH CLASS*

You/your parent or guardian will recieve a skylert/email/text to your home from Mrs. Cotton. This message will direct you and your parent/s or guardians to come to this site to review the scheduling form (link below) to review together for your upcoming grade level.

Finally, your World History or Civics teacher will collect your forms that period and send them to guidance.

SOME FAQ'S:

WHAT IF MY STUDENT IS ABSENT THAT DAY?
- They can pick up a sheet from teh fuidance office that following week, fill it out right then and give it back OR turn it back in the following day- no later than Friday, Feb. 28th. But please understand, if they never fill out a form or forget to turn it in...we pick their classes for them!!!

INCOMING 5TH GRADE & SCHOOL CHOICE MAGNET

If you are currently in 5th grade, the information in the section applies to you!!!

Welcome to Howard Middle School! We are so happy you will be joining us as member of the BULL FAMILY with a long tradition of excellence!!!

The HMS guidance staff will be sending each of our elementary schools who have students that ZONED to join us for the 25-26, copies of the 6th grade scheduling sheet along with a roster of names.

Your elementary school guidance staff will either be providing you with a copy of the form you can see here as linked below, to take home, fill out and return to them OR if requested by the school, a member of our guidance team will visit with our zoned students, fill out the form and collect that day. These 6th grade scheduling forms should reach your elementary school by February 21st.

IF you have been provided with one of our scheduling sheets, PLEASE be sure to return this no later than Monday, March 3rd to your elementary school's guidance department so that they may get them to HMS quickly! Parents, you may also download/print this form yourself and drop it off to the HMS front office, also by Friday, March 7th. This is how we get your choices of courses and electives entered for the upcoming school year.

**IF YOU APPLIED FOR OUR SCHOOL CHOICE MAGNET AND HAVE BEEN ACCEPTED...CONGRATULATIONS!!!! You will be contacted by our Magnet Coordinator Ms. Helen Hamel, as soon as we have the final list of all student who were offered and have accepted a school choice spot at HMS**

For those joining us on School Choice, you will be also be contacted to attend our annual "SCHOOL CHOICE WELCOME & SCHEDULING NIGHT". This will be on Tuesday, March 25th at 5:30pm in our Cafeteria. During this session you will recieve the proper grade level scheduling sheet. You and your parents/guardians can fill it out at this time. GOING TO HIGH SCHOOL!

Below contains information on moving on to High School for the 25-26 school year! Please see basic information on the High School you are "Zoned" for. Each section will contain a link to that High School's course request sheet/options that you will be filling out. It will also include any other information that the school may have provided to us. PLEASE take the time to review the options with your parents or guardians and for yourself so that you will be familiar with that high schools offerings.

ALL CURRENT 8TH GRADE STUDENTS WILL BE MEETING WITH THEIR ZONED HIGH SCHOOL REPRESENTATIVES THIS FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 7TH DURING 2ND PERIOD!

FAQ'S:

What if my student is not going to their zoned HS...we did school choice???

ALL 8th grade students will be filling out course request sheets for their zoned high school. if they have applied for a school choice program at a high school other than the school that they are zoned for, once accepted, that high school will reach out to you to complete their scheduling options. You may also want to contact that High School directly for more information. IF they do not end up going to their school choice option and their ZONED school does not have a scheduling form for them...they pick your classes and elective for you!!!

What if my student is absent on Friday, February 7th???

The high schools generally leave extra scheduling sheets behind that your student can pick up in our guidance office the following week OR you may download and print from the links provided for each HS and send it to the high school yourself.
